I have always had an unexplainable love for musical theater. I think this happens to the best of us. I assume it has something to do with the power of its storytelling potential, or maybe it simply dates back to my childhood and that’s all there is to it. There’s certainly something about live theater that I will never live down and when you combine it with music, the power is inescapable. I take this potential power seriously. I know that when I pick a subject about which to write, I am often picking something I will be spending the next several years getting to know, so I ask myself these questions: is it relevant to the world right now? Is it relevant to me? I generally dive into something that I am excited to grow through. Lyrics, compositional techniques, notation, instrumentation, audio production—these are the details. These can all be hashed out. What I am intent on is bringing stories and ideas that need discussion, from myself to myself and from myself to you. Though I am writing through the perspective of various other characters, it is one of the most true expressions of my voice, and my voice at its best loves and believes in the goodness of people.
